William James Gard & Mary Start

William, Mary & William Amos

William, unlike his two older brothers and sister, had no middle name recorded on his birth record.   At the age of seven, William travelled with his father to Adelaide to start a new life, where as an adult he worked as a carpenter, building many residential houses around Adelaide.

He was married to Mary Start at the residence of Amos Smith. This relationship between Amos and William has not yet been established, but it would seem suffient enough as William and Mary named their first born son William Amos Gard.

William and Mary were devout christians. They attended Grote St church of Christ, Adelaide from 1871 till the time of their passing. Mary was given the honour of laying the foundation stone for the new building erected in 1925. more pictures
