Thomas Bennett Gard

Thomas Bennett Gard was convicted along with his two accomplices William Gale and Thomas Smith for breaking and entering the home of Rachael and Ann Gale of Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire on the 30th November 1821. They made off with the silver ware and some other goods.

They first received the death penalty but their sentence was later changed to transportation to Van Diemen's Land for the term of their natural lives. Thomas departed England on the 13th June 1822 aboard the convict ship ‘Arab’, and arrived on the 6th November that same year after 116 days at sea.
