After his return he managed the Adelaide business for five years and then opened the North Adelaide branch,
of which he is now manager. The business of the branch is almost exclusively confined to cycles, to which all kinds of
repairs are effected on the premises.
Mr Gard belongs to the Independent Order of Rechabites and the Typographical Society of South Australia.
In 1890 he married Eliza Jane, third daughter of Mr Richard Morphett, Secretary to the Oddfellows' Lodge, Adelaide,
and has three sons, each of whom displays a talent for music, one being a flautist, another a really good pianist,
and the third a violinist. Mr Gard and his family are mebers of the Tynte Street Baptist Church.

Mr. John Bailey Gard, of the motor cycle firm of Gard Bros, Gouger street, died yesterday, at the qge of 61.
Born in Adelaide, he graduated into business life in 1897 from the type composing frame. On the retire ment of his brother
Alfred from the firm he became sole proprietor. In earlier life he was a member of the Adelphian and Federal Cricket Clubs,
and of the South Adelaide Football Club. He was a foundation member of the Tranmere Bowling Club, of which he had been
president for the last two years - Mr. Gard was an active worker for the Tynte Street Baptist Church. He has left a widow
and two sons, Mr. William Gard (N.Z.), and Mr. Harold Gard (Corryton). |
