John Bailey Gard, manager of the North Adelaide branh of the firm of Gard Brothers, motor and cycle manufactures and importers, 21 and 23, Gouger Street, Adelaide, and 45, O'Connell Street North Adelaide, was born in the metropolis of South Australia on May 15, 1867. He is a son of Mr. William Gard, of keswick, South Australia, who was born in Tasmania in 1840, and came to South Australia when quite a little boy. His mother is also a very old colonialist, having arrived in this State in the forties, being then only two years old.

Mr. J.B.Gard received his education at the Grote Street Public School, after which he elected to learn the trade of a compositor, and was apprenticed to the proprietors of the Advertiser, remaining in their employ altogether for about 17 years. Prior to entering into partnership with his brother at 29, Gouger Street, in 1896, he visited England and Europe in order to obtain a knowledge of the cycle trade. read more
