I was born Gladys Mary Florence Gard at Campania Sat June 14th 1902. I was the third child of Walter & Mary Gard nee Godfrey of Endfield near Campania, my Father was working as a Blacksmith & we lived in a little cottage (now opposite to soldier's clubrooms). The family which later increased to four girls & three boys were all christened in Campania Church of England, although we moved to New Norfolk while I was only five Months old. Dad worked in the Quarries where they were getting stone out to build Hobart Post Office, he was the tool sharpener. We did not stay there long, only a few months then went to Oatlands but not staying long, it was very cold so they said. |
